Various National Park Service staff, professors, and retired park employees have come together to discuss alternative treatments for the oldest surviving above-ground adobes walls in Arizona – the ruin of the Jesuit-era Spanish colonial mission of Los Santos Angeles de Guevavi. According to  Alex Lim from Tumacacori National Historical Park , alternate options have been reviewed for protecting the wall tops and faces and participants have ultimately agreed upon a minimally invasive approach involving protecting the walls with a combination of adobe cap and sacrificial earthen coats. This will be followed up with monitoring to measure the effectiveness of this approach. SMRC will forward any updates of these preservation efforts as we receive them.
