Congratulations to SMRC board member Dr. Nicole Mathwich as lead author in her recent article in the Journal of Anthropological Archaeology titled “Bureaucratic reforms on the frontier: Zooarchaeological and historical perspectives on the 1767 Jesuit Expulsion in the Pimeria Alta.” Co-authored with Dr. Barnet Pavao-Zuckerman, this article discusses global bureaucratic reforms, animal use at colonial sites, demographic changes, and resilience in relation to indigenous experience in the Pimeria Alta during the Spanish colonial period.
