
On Monday, March 23, 2026, the Southwest Seminars presents Suitcases of Cash & Handfuls of Punche: Preserving Chimayó History by Don J. Usner, M.A., a 13th generation New Mexican born in Embudo and raised in Los Alamos and Chimayó. Usner is a photographer, author, and cultural geographer with the following publications to his credit: Valles Caldera: A new Vision for New Mexico’s National Preserve; Life in Chimayó’s Old Plaza; Chasing Dichos Through Chimayó; and Benigna’s Chimayó: and Cuentos from the Old Plaza. His photographs have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, El Palacio, and New Mexico Magazine. This presentation will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Hotel Santa Fe, located at 1501 Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe, NM, with a $20 fee at the door.
