On Monday, April 13, 2026, the Southwest Seminars presents “Retracing New Mexico’s Ancestry: Los Genízaros” by Joe Tackes. In his current position as Interpretive Ranger at the Coronado Historic Site (Kuaua Pueblo) in New Mexico, Tackes conducts historical research, including longstanding forced indentured Indigenous servitude throughout the Spanish colonial, Mexican and into American Territorial periods of our regional history. rigins of the term, Genízaros, the many hardships they faced, and their various roles and lives of mixed-race descendants in shaping our cultural history are inextricably woven into the stories and fabric of life in New Mexico. This presentation will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Hotel Santa Fe, located at 1501 Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe, NM, with a $20 fee at the door.
