Bishop Slawormir Szkredka cuts the ribbon to
officially re-open Mission Santa Inés
Officials, parishioners, and community members recently gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony and special mass to celebrate the mission’s re-opening, after undergoing several months of structural strengthening designed to prevent major earthquake damage. Construction began in January 2025; however, preliminary engineering and fundraising work began over three years ago. Working closely with the California Missions Foundation (CMF), Mission Santa Inés received a $500,000 grant from Save America’s Treasure, matched with funds raised by the parish and community, making it possible for the more than $1 million retrofit project to be achieved. CMF Executive Director David Bolton expressed his congratulations to all those involved with the project, which was completed both in a timely manner and within budget. Founded in 1804, Mission Santa Inés was one of twenty-one California missions established by Franciscan priests, and continues today as an active parish church.
