Friends of the San Pedro River (FSPR) will be sponsoring the “History Walk to Presidio Santa Cruz de Terrenate” on Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 9:00-11:00 am. Join a walking tour of the Spanish Presidio of Santa Cruz de Terrenate with FSPR docent Jeff Hustad. This fort was operational during the late 1770s, the centerpiece for a planned Spanish occupation of the San Pedro River valley that failed. This free tour, which involves a three-mile roundtrip walk over trails and uneven ground, will be starting at the Presidio Santa Cruz de Terrenate Trailhead parking area. Drive 8.3 miles east of Whetstone on Arizona Highway 82/AZ-82 (about 1 mile west of the San Pedro River), turn north onto In Balance Ranch Rd. (which is N. Kellar Rd. on Google Maps), and go 1.7 miles to the trailhead (which is searchable as “Presidio Santa Cruz Terrenate Trailhead” in Google Maps). For more information call 520-508-4445 or email fspr@sanpedroriver.org.
