On Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society (AAHS) presents a free lecture by Lindsay Montgomery about “Nomadic Tribes of the Rio Grande Valley.” Providing a critique of big picture history using the Comanche as a case study, Montgomery will draw on archaeological and historical evidence to present an alternative account of the 18th century Southwest. This evidence will show that the Comanche not only resisted Spanish colonialism but were in control of a vast economic-political empire of their own.The argument will be made that Europe’s victory over underdeveloped and unsophisticated Natives was far from inevitable. This presentation will be held at the Banner University Medical Center DuVal Auditorium, 1501 N. Campbell Ave, Tucson, from 7:30-9pm.
