The Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society presents “Creating Community in Colonial Alta California” by Dr. John G. Douglass on Monday, May 15, 2017, 7:30 pm, at the University Medical Center (Tucson, AZ) in the Duval Auditorium. Dr. Douglass will discuss how interaction between Native Californians and Spanish colonists led to the creation of communities during the Mission period in the Los Angeles Basin, what this interaction looked like, how communities were maintained, and how this fundamentally transformed the lives of Native Californians. In order to understand these relationships, Dr. Douglass has incorporated both archaeological and enthohistoric sources in his research.
