The Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society (AAHS) and SMRC board member Robert Vint will present “The Myth of Tucson” on Monday, October 16, 2017 from 7:30-9pm. Is there a “real” Tucson or are there many Tucsons? Vint will discuss Tucson as a place with deep roots in pre-contact Native American culture, followed upon by Spanish colonization and Anglo-American consumer-capitalism. He will address Tucson’s image as the “Wild West,” its early Native American, Spanish, and Mexican history overshadowed and supplanted with the dominant Anglo society’s own image, and the destruction of 19th century Mexican Barrio during “urban renewal.” This free presentation will be held at the Banner University Medical Center DuVal Auditorium, 1501 N. Campbell Ave, Tucson.
